Weddings are said to be made in heaven and wherever the fate has been decided by the god, it is meant to happen there. India is a culturally diverse nation has different cultures and religions in it. The wedding traditions and rituals significantly differ from each other and are a reflection of the both. The timings of the wedding, temples, and churches, rituals followed are totally different from each other. Some prefer simple weddings and some want the pomp and show. Punjabi weddings are not a single day affair but ought various rituals that are to be performed on a different day. Beginning from the roka or pre-engagement is a half-engagement ceremony where the blessings to the girl are given and the relationship is given an official tag. On the wedding day “milni” takes place where both the family members meet and hug each other turn by turn. Then the “phere” take place, where both swear to take care of each other and abide by the responsibilities in front of Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
